water water everywhere
I don't consider myself to be a very competitive person. Don't get me wrong, I love a good competition but I'm not a sore winner, or a sore loser. I can accept defeat when I need to and move on without getting mad or cocky.
But sometimes I just get this competitive bug in me and I can't stop it.
Yesterday, my friend, Rebekah, and I decided to have a contest. One thing that often comes up in conversation while we are at work is how much water we drink and how often we go to the bathroom. So we had the bright idea to see who could drink the most water by 4:00pm (when I leave work). We started at 11:00am.
Rebekah and I don't work at the same place so all of this was done via electronic communication. That means we couldn't see each other or how much water we were each drinking. The only thing i knew was that she had a 20 oz. water bottle and a competitive will.
Let the games begin.
Water. Drinking. More Drinking. Bathroom. LUNCH BREAK. Bathroom. Water.drinking.water.bathroom. bathroomwaterdrinkingdrinkingwaterbathroomdrinkingdrinking...drinking...water...siiiiiick.
I can't even describe to you that last hour. my goal was to drink 2 bottles each hour, and I had broken it down to a science. 2 bottles an hour: that's 1 every 30 minutes, 24 oz. divided by 3 was 8, 8 oz. every 10 minutes. Easy.
I didn't drink 2 during my lunch hour so I decided to squeeze in 3 the last hour. 72 oz. in 60 minutes. Don't try this at home. After the math, that's 1 bottle every 20 minutes, 8 oz. every 6-7 minutes. After I chugged the first bottle in 20 minutes I wanted to die. I decided I'd just drink 24 more ounces before I left.
That last 8 oz. stared me down for 10 minutes. I kept telling myself that it's not that hard to drink a glass of water but every time I put that glass to my lips, all I could do was fill my mouth with water and hold it there until I could convince myself that I wouldn't throw up if I drank it.
Well, I drank it, and I didn't throw up. And I won. Too bad Rebekah and I were so water logged that we hardly reacted to the news of who won.
The final tally? Rebekah 160 oz., Amanda 216 oz.
We talked about it all afternoon and evening. Bragging to everyone about how much water we drank. We will never do it again.
