I went to california and all I got was a hat

A couple weeks ago I went to California for the holiday weekend. I went with my best friends Rebekah, Hannah, Emily, and Emileigh. Here's the recap:

Some notes:

  • We listened to I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston probably at least 15 times over the three-day period. Each time it was blasted while we sang at the top of our lungs with our eyes closed for most of the song.
  • The captain of the whale-watching boat became our best friend because all we wanted to talk about was dolphins and he knows a lot about dolphins.
  • Having three GPS systems in one car is probably the best way to get around southern California.
  • Chatting with the high school girls in line for the roller coaster can be really entertaining. Just think like a high schooler and you're in.
  • Making creepy faces in the camera on the roller coaster is definitely the best idea ever. We got to ride it twice and when you're on a mediocre roller coaster you've got to find something awesome to do the second time around.
  • Best moment ever? Bekah and I were sitting in the roller coaster waiting for them to finish the safety check. A female employee (who may or may not have been pregnant) came through the gate and Bekah and I looked at each other and AT EXACTLY THE SAME TIME said, "Pregnant?" We laughed about that for a loooong time.
  • Seeing an Adrien Grenier look-alike is just as good as the real thing. I'm assuming.
  • One thing on our to-do list was Trader Joe's, and it was top priority. Luckily there was one in Santa Monica so after we got our fill on the pier we booked it back to our car and to the nearest Trader Joe's before it closed. It was good thing we chose that one because I got to ask the cutest guy ever to help me find some miniature peanut butter cracker sandwiches.
  • I got up early Saturday morning before everyone else and went running. That was one of my favorite parts of the whole trip. I felt so blessed to be in such a beautiful place.
  • My only souvenirs were a beanie from the whale-watching gift shop and some sand in my purse.
  • We spent a few hours at the beach on Sunday. It was too cold to go in the water so we just sat on a blanket and walked around looking for cool stuff in the sand. I couldn't have been happier.
  • Sunday night we hung out with the family we were staying with. They have three kids and they were so much fun. They have a chameleon and a bearded dragon and I got to hold both of them! We got to see it eat a live cricket, tongue snapping and all. All I can think about is buying a pet chameleon. And hiring someone to feed it live crickets.
  • On one of our stops during the drive back we were in line at the gas station and the man behind us chimed in on our conversation. He was quite a hoot and really enjoyed teasing us. When we got back to the car we realized the awesome orange, flaming car was his and we tried to take a picture before he came back. He totally caught us, and then offered to take a picture of us with his car. So good thing we got that last day documented. Nothing like a picture of you at a gas station after being in the car all day.
The trip was amazing. I had so much fun. My friends are the greatest and it was so fun to hang out with them all weekend!
