weekend fun

So, classes finally started and they are going well. I'm taking statistics, achieving eternal marriage and folk dances of the Pacific islands. It's fun to meet new people in classes. I love meeting people here because everyone has such a different story.

Last Saturday we went on a little tour around the island as part of orientation. We went to Pali lookout. It was gorgeous but it was really windy! Everyone's pictures are so funny because they everyone's hair is crazy! I don't think anyone has a good picture. Then we went the the swap meet which is basically all these vendor booths set up around the perimeter of the stadium in Honolulu. It was fun to see all the really cool stuff. I got a sarong/lava lava and some earrings. I can't wait to go back!
Then we went to Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor was amazing. The program consists of a short documentary film and then a boat ride to the memorial of the USS Arizona. It was really touching to see the memorial and be right above where all those men died in the attack.

Then we went to Wal-Mart but I had to leave early to be back for work so I grabbed the few things I needed and left with Jessica and Danielle to find our way back to Laie. After asking afew people we finally found the bus stop and hoped it was the right bus. AFter being on the bus for a few minutes we found out we were on the right one and then we just had to make sure we got off at the right stop. The ride was about and hour and a half but we finally made it back to Laie. I was so happy to see campus!

I also started work this past weekend. Friday was my first day and I was basically thrown into work. I was paired with another employee to train me but his accent was really strong and it was hard to understand him. It was kind of overwhelming! I made it through the rest of the noght ok and the next couple nights went really well. Then, tonight I was assigned to work the line which basically means making sure there is always food on the buffet and then cleaning it after everyone leaves. I had no idea what I was doing and my coworkers were too busy to help. I felt so helpless but then a girl finally started telling me what to do after I told I had never done it before and I just kept asking her what to do. She seemed really cranky at first but when it was just the two or us washing all the utensils she started warming up and we chatted a little. I really don't like being the new worker when everyone knows exactly what to do and it's less efficient to stop and train me.
