The other day, I heard one of the tutors reminiscing about her kindergarten days. I don't know how the topic came up but she was talking about "Flip-up Friday". To her surprise, no one had heard of that tradition before. It was one of several traditions upheld by her kindergarten class. There was Monday Marriage Day, Wednesday Wedding Day and Flip-up Friday, among others. Monday and Wednesday's tradition was basically the same: if you were on the swing set with a boy and you started swinging at the same rhythm, you were getting married. Flip-up Friday was an entirely different story. Flip-up Friday: if a girl wore a skirt or dress to school on Friday, the boys would try to flip up her skirt.
Yes, that's right, they would try to flip up her skirt...kindergarteners. Do kindergarteners even know what is under a skirt? As much as I love honoring tradition, there are some that should not be honored. I hope this tradition is one of them.
