Drive Home: Grand Canyon

I know I didn't say much about our drive to Arizona, but not that much happened. I slept a lot, Kurt drove the whole way, we stopped in Kanab, listened to a lot of music. A pretty basic long drive.

The way back, my friends, was different. And I'm here to tell you about it.

Nothing very exciting happened until we got to the Grand Canyon. We had been driving for about 6 hours, we hadn't eaten anything and then we had to pay $25 to get in. $25!! For maybe an hour of looking at a big hole. So the drive from the entrance gate all the way to the final stopping point was full of bitter, sarcastic, vengeful comments about the price to look at a hole.

We finally got to the viewing area and it was breathtaking, to say the least. It's not just a desert with a big hole in it. It's a beautiful forest with an amazing canyon. I can't even describe how amazing the Grand Canyon is. The colors, the formations, everything. Incredible.

We saw a cool place to get a better view of the canyon and Kurt went out first to check it out. He said it was a way better view and I could totally climb down with out any problems. Ha. He came back to help me climb down a big rock. I handed him my camera in my camera case so I could get a better grip. When I thought he had my case, I let go. My case fell to the ground and stopped. For a split second I thought it was just a silly mistake and what a bummer that I had dropped my camera from pretty high rock.

I said split second. It kept falling, rolling down the incline, just kept going. Kurt and I stared at it, waiting for it to stop, and then just staring in shock because it didn't stop. It rolled out of view and just kept going. I started laughing. That. Just. Happened. Kurt looked at me and started apologizing, I was still laughing, covering my face in shock. I finally looked at him, "My phone was in there."

"No, it wasn't."

"Yes, it was."

"Oh my gosh. I can't believe that just happened. I'm going to go get it."

Kurt started climbing down. I told him not to kill himself and went to sit on the rock. The view was beautiful. I spotted a big hawk soaring through the canyon, the sun was starting to set, it really was amazing.

Kurt finally made it back up and we left. The drive through the park along the south rim was gorgeous. We were driving through forest for about an hour with glimpses of the Grand Canyon through the trees.
