These are just a few poor-quality images of one of the best nights of my life. And here's the story:
My brother, Trevor, was a team coach at a singing camp in Provo last week called ReMix Vocal Academy. After a whole week of rehearsing and stuff they put on a concert for the community Saturday night. I went with my sister, Abigail, and our friend, Jessie. There were five teams from the camp and they each did a song with a opening and a closing number with the whole group.
But the best part was in the middle of the program. ReMix (the vocal group).
ReMix is made up of past and current members of Vocal Point. McKay used to be in Vocal Point and started this group of VPers without performing as VP. McKay is also the director of the ReMix camp. Anyway, the good part:
ReMix comes out in all their VP glory singing a song from A Goofy Movie, so of course I already love them. They sing a couple songs and then Scott, a new guy in VP, comes and talks to the crowd. He's doing his little talkie, comes off the stage, walks up the aisle, and asks for a volunteer. I shoot my hand up immediately, then bring it back down slowly, not really knowing what I could be getting into. I didn't totally give up though, I kept my hand, non-committedly, by my face. Scott said the volunteer had to be a female (check), a bunch of hands went down, and she had to be over 18 (check), even more hands went down. With each qualification I got a little braver until my hand was straight up in the air again and Abigail and Jessie were pointing at me and yelling to pick me. Scott pointed right at me.
I shuffle my way from the center of my row to the aisle and introduce my self. Scott holds his hand out and asks if he can take me to the stage. I grab his hand and off we go. Now, in my head I'm imagining that I'll get to sit on a chair or stool, or possibly awkwardly stand on stage while the talented men serenade me. I really didn't know what I had gotten myself into.
Scott took me up to the stage and starting telling me what was in store, but the lights were so bright, I was still in shock, they were already singing, and before I knew it Scott had grabbed my hand and was shaking his hips and winking at me as he sang Save The Last Dance For Me. How much did I love it? A LOT. And yes, I will continue with every detail from the whole song. And then some.
Scott sang and danced and winked at me while he sang that whole first verse. He took me across the stage, he flirtatiously flipped my hair, and I think there was even a shimmy in there. The rest of the group was lined up across the stage behind us and they were the next destination. They each took a fun little turn dancing with me. Awesome. Then Scott flew me back to the front of the stage, sang a little, then flew me to the back, behind everyone else, "I'm gonna teach you a little dance step, ok?" "Ok :)" Then we made our way back to the front again, "Let's do the dance I taught you." Done. "And now, samba!" I have no idea what it is to samba but I stared at Scott's feet and did exactly what he did. I think we looked great together.
Finally, it was all over; I was elated and exhausted. Scott said a few words (like I would remember what he said? please), and I finally got to walk back to my seat, with a few faithful fans complimenting my performance on the way.
Was it the best night of my life? Yes. Will I remember it forever? Yes. Was Scott embarrassed about his behavior after finding out that he is in VP with my brother. You betcha. Is there a follow up story involving more of this embarrassment? Duh. Stay tuned for part 2.
