As much as you loved that rooster, you probably want to know what's actually going on in Cambodia (besides rooster photo shoots). Here's the latest:
Last Friday Kira came home from being out in the field and it was the best thing ever. We missed each other so much! After work we went to our friends', John and Michelle, house for the last time. They left that night to go back to the US for a couple months, and we will be gone by the time they get back. We ate veggie burgers and french fries and it was SO DELICIOUS.
Saturday we found a spa so we could get our legs waxed, which I'm sure you wanted to know. The spa was really close to a Lucky Supermarket so we stopped there afterwards. Lucky is the Western supermarket in PP. It has all sorts of Western/American stuff, but it is so expensive. We got a few things we had been craving and otherwise wandered through all the aisles reminiscing about American food. After we rested at home for a while we went back out to the Russian Market, one of our favorite places, and I got a bunch of movies. After dinner we watched Warm Bodies and I really liked it.
Sunday we went to church, the talks were so amazing and were just what I needed to hear, which means I cried the whole time. I was called to do music in Primary so I did Singing Time for the first time and I think it went well. The Primary only has about 10 kids so it's a small group, but they are good kids and they sing loud when I ask them to. That's all I need.
After church we went to our friend Sokhum's house for lunch. I met Sokhum last week when I was hanging out with the other interns. One of the interns served his mission here with Sokhum, and he and his friend, Harry, hang out with the other interns a lot. Harry and Sokhum are both Cambodian and they are so fun. After lunch we went home and then later that evening we needed to go out so we just went on a walk to explore the neighborhood a little more.
On Monday we had a few errands to run but it started raining as soon as we got home from work. We decided to brave the rain and go out anyway. We went to the Sieu Thi Vietnam (the supermarket) to get a few things (like cheese), and then to a bakery to get a baguette, and then to an office supplies store we discovered the night before that's really close to our house. Both of my pens ran out of ink at the same time so I needed to get a couple more, and I've filled up my journal so I had to get a new one. PEN SHOPPING IS HARD. They had a wall of pens and I am really picky so it took me forever to find one I liked and I only found one. Kira ended up giving me one she found on the ground a while ago so I could have two pens.
We indulged for dinner and had bread and cheese and Nutella and bananas. It was so great. We also bought milk at Lucky and had some with Oreos. Mmmm delicious.
On Tuesday we went to a shoe store so I could order some custom made shoes (it's on my Cambodia bucket list). I hope they turn out cute and not weird shaped like my actual foot. Designing your own shoes is a lot of pressure. We went to the Russian Market on the way home to get some fruit.
Yesterday after work we went to the church to help with the English class that the missionaries teach. They like to have native English speakers there to help with pronunciation and conversation. Everyone in the class is so nice and fun to talk to! It's admirable to see how much effort they put into learning something new. After the class we cleaned our apartment. We are trying to sell it for the month of August so we decided to clean it and take some pictures so people will want to live there. After we cleaned, Kira and I sat on the balcony and talked about life and other deep things for a long time.
Today after work we are going to the US Embassy to buy tickets for the Independence Day celebration. Go America!
