The last day in Siem Reap

Ok, finally I have the rest of the Siem Reap trip.

We started at about 8:00 am, drove far far away (I don't know how many miles or kilometers), until we got to the trail head that leads to Kbal Spean where there is a river and carvings in the stone. It's called the "River of a Thousand Lingas" because there are tons and tons of lingas carved into the stone. The hike is about a mile and it was really cool. We were straight up hiking in the jungle (there was a trail, but you know, jungle all around us) and there were sooo many butterflies everywhere! It was really cool, and also really hot and sweaty.

The river carvings

Kira found a hole and just had to climb down.

Beautiful river

A lucky frog!

We heard and read about a waterfall but we didn't see anything. We thought maybe since the rainy season hadn't really started that the waterfall was dry. Then this very nice old man asked us if we could help him with some English words in the book he was reading. After we helped him he asked if we had seen the waterfall. He said he would take us because he wanted to practice his English. He showed us a few other carvings on the way and would write words on his hand to ask for the pronunciation.

The waterfall was really cool. And of course we couldn't resist going under it and getting totally soaked. The hike back was nice and cool (since we were totally wet) and then our tuk-tuk took us to the last temple.

This temple is said to have been carved by women because men could never do something so beautiful. All of the stone was a really cool reddish color. There wasn't much shade and this place was HOT. But it was totally worth it because the carvings were really spectacular.

After this temple, we went back to the city. I was sick from whatever I ate the night before so the rest of the day was spent in bed. We went out and got some dinner (just rice for me) and then went back home. The next morning Kira got on a bus to go to a border town to get a new visa. I got on a bus that afternoon and went back to PP. It was good to get back to my apartment and go to bed early.
